The advantages and disadvantages of strip quality are greatly influenced by theeffect of tension control. Indirect tension control system is applied in lots of domesticmanufacturing enterprise at present. However, the effect of direct tension control can notbe achieved through the traditional PID control. According to the character of the systemin the practical industrial process and the experience got during equipment modificationand commissioning of WISCO, a indirect tension sensorless closed-loop system which isbased on virtual outer tension loop by using of T400technology board is developed. Andthe Siemens SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES6SE70series vector control inverter waschose as main transmission device of mill. The strategy of the fuzzy adaptive PID control,which can be used for outer tension loop control, is presented in this paper to achievesystematic optimization.We simulated the winding tension control system based on fuzzy adaptive PIDcontrol in the laboratory successfully and obtained good effect. The tension controlaccuracy can reach1%without sacrificing regulation time. The burr is decreased andthe system has high steady state accuracy. The system can meet the requirement ofindustrial manufacturing process well. Through several months of test, the system isstable and slash the fault rate by40%so that the spare parts consumption is significantlyreduced. The loose bushing and deviation phenomenon is reduced greatly and the coilingquality enhances greatly. At the same time, the intensity of labor is greatly decreased andthe apparatus cost is reduced.
