SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system is a highly integrated with Computer Network technology,Database technology,Computer Graphics,Digital Electronic technology,Automatic Control etc. It is related to multiple speciality and subject. In some extent a mature and advanced SCADA system is on behalf of this country`s technique level in this field. The Hydropower plant scada system has much of the running and automatic control character of Hydropower plant ,it is can and only be used in hydropower plant .This paper reviews the history and trend of the computer based supervisory and control system for hydropower plant both at home and aboard. Writer make a deeply and thoroughly research in designing a scada system of large-sized hydropower plant, specifically applicable to GeZhouBa Hydropower Plant, HuBei, is proposed and developed.The design principles of its hardware architecture based on related industry standards and user's requirements are proposed. Principle of LCU(Local Control Unit)'ssoftware and hardware's Designing is confirmed, and we pre-design the connection port of LCU to Turbine Governor,Exciting Governor,Protection set etc. In addition, we research the appliance of PLC(Programmed Logical Control) and field bus in Hydropower plant. A Software and hardware structure of Master Station for large-sized hydropower plant is designed, after the study on the relationship of computer supervisory and control system and other automatic systems in the plant, the topological structures, control modes, open structure, PLC technique and field bus technique.On the base of the demand analysis of the GeZhouBa -sized hydropower plants, a software and hardware architecture of the supervisory and control system for GeZhouBa -sized hydropower systems is put forward, which includes the functions of Master Station , Generator Local Control Unit, public unit control. Lastly the principle and realized mode of AGC(Automation Generate Control) is discussed. The development of the computer based supervisory and control system for GeZhouBa Hydropower Plant, YiChang, is described in detail. Its tests in field and operation is described and evaluated.The field tests and operation of the system demonstrate that development of the system is successful, and that it contributes to the high efficiency of the plant.
