With the help of night vision instrument, people can see the objects in the dark area. Night vision instrument has special applications in military field and study on it has not ever been stopping. So far the image multipliers have experienced for three generations in its development, and the MicroChannel Plates in the fourth generation became appeared. That also brought about a revolution in the MicroChannel Plates related to the image tube. The performances of MicroChannel Plates had been improved on and the related new technologies had emerged continuously. The work on MicroChannel Plates had a relatively high theoretical and practical value to studying the new MicroChannel Plates devices and improving on its performances.The basic theory, structure characteristics , performance and test about low-level-light imaging tube and MCP were introduced in this paper。 On the base of it, we discuss the ion barrier film's basical theory and making technology, the most important determinant for the Third Generation Image Tube's useful life. Then the relative theories and experiments about the film's influence on the image quality were presented. The electron and ion transmittance of this film was studied. The concept of dead voltage of MCP with film was discussed. The dead voltage curve and the relation between dead voltage and thickness of film were tested. The results of performance testing comparisons were presented. The composition of film was analyzed by XPS. Through theoretical analysis on ion transmittance characteristics for MCP ion barrier film, we proposed the concept characterized the inhibition ability of film from ion transmitting, testing theorem and related techniques for ion transmittance measuring. Under the experiments, the influence on the lifetime, luminance were discussed.
