For the sake of satisfying requirement of markets and making up thelimitation of current meter reading system, the thesis advance the investigative task of AMRS(Automatic Meter Reading System) .The design of AMRS adopts the technology of field-bus, the communication of low power line carrier and GPRS and wireless communication. The system includes meter terminal (power meter, water meter and LPG meter), data collection organ, data convergence organ and data center. The thesis investigates the design of the data center, the module of low power line carrier and the data administration center, the thesis also constitutes the correlative communication protocols.In the system of AMRS, data traffic is a all-important of aspect. In the design of thesis, based of practice complexion, the data traffic divides into double floors. The first floor is the communication of the meter terminal and the data convergence organ, this consists two partial data traffics: one is RS485 communication which is from the meter terminal to the data convergence organ, the other is the communication of low power line carrier between the data collection organ and data convergence organ. The secondly floor is the GSM/GPRS communication between data convergence organ and the data center in distance. The chosen of these communicate fashions in the thesis based the precondition of stability and veracity of the system, made the system achieved the best chosen.In the design of the power meter increases a function , which the consumer would be turned off all the electricity for failing to pay the money the owed, this is a very important method to advance the standard of realty management. In the water meter and the LPG meter, the thesis adopts the MSP430FW427 SCM by way of the controller, the SCM has the ultra low power. The module of SCAN IF's design is important, the module can measure the flux of tap water or the gas-fired tolerance. In addition, in the communication of low power line carrier exists the problem of the transmitted distance of communication. If the distance between the data collection organ and data convergence organ exceeds the effective distance of the carrier communication, the communication will not be succeed, withal the thesis brings forward the resolve way of "dummy relay" .The AMRS which is designed in the thesis was debugged succeedably in the lab, and the AMRS achieved the aim of design. The AMRS is provided with the characteristic economy and practicality, the better ability of the anti-jamming, the preferably of dependability and upper precision.
