With the excellence of great efficiency and convenience in intelligentized managing data from user's power meter,water meter and LPG meter, Automatic Meter Reading System(AMRS) is beening applied more and more widely in continual upsurge of setting up buildings in china's city currently. AMRS has many different kinds of scheme, thereinto, the technology of low power line carrier enables AMRS to make use of existing low power line network as corresponding medium to transmit information. It can save so much work of paving lots of lines of communication like RS-485 that it is regarded as a very economical and well-suited method of centralized reading system. Besides, by right of the speciality of online forever and charge on data flux, the technology of GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) can make AMRS connect into Internet and complete centralized management and control in very wide area.Based on the technology of low power line carrier and GPRS connected into Internet, this system is studied systematically as AMRS which is made of two steps of transmitted system to collect and transmit data of user's three meters in wide area. The first step of transmitted system is in the small range of user's building, which can complete collecting data from all meters in the same transformer. In user's house, after having been redesigned with the emphases on low level power instead of the old ones, water meter and LPG meter are connected into the power meter via 20mA current loop.The power meter is designed to have the carrier interface through which the three meter's data is transmited into the concentrator by the way of low power line carrier. The second step of transmitted system exists in wide area and make the data of all of concentrators from different residential area connected into Internet. The concentrator in residential area on one hand receives data from user's meters via carrier interface and on the other hand transmits the data into Internet via GPRS interface. The software in the control center catchs the information of all user's meters of distance place from Internet and deals with that, at the same time, it also can transmit the control command to all kinds of meters and make AMRS have the function of centralized control.The research of this system prove that AMRS based on the technology of low power line carrier and GPRS is feasible and effective and it will stand for the new development direction of AMRS.During the research there are some problems were found needed to be improved and consummated further.
