Osd(On screen display)system is an indiscerptible part of video processing system. This design chooses top-down designing idea, partitioned into several parts as follows: deciding on capability and function, system layout and arithmetic research, code writing and simulation.Based on existing osd theory, this paper is absorbed in unique characteristics of the design, including: optimizing osd inside frame which boosts up corresponding speed of real time playing and stability of menu displaying, improving arithmetic of LUT which achieves 65536 color space in the case of don't add any hardware resource, innovatively using hardware arithmetic to implement character border drawing and shadow effect which saves a lot of memory, individually adjusting lum and contrast of osd menu in 32 rank , etc.In the processing of discussing implemention of asic, a kind of integrated asic implementation flow is analyzed in this paper. In concrete design processing, skills of writing syntheticable VerilogHDl codes are explained in detail.This design makes use of Aldec ActiveHDL 6.2 to writing VerilogHDL codes and running simluation, Xilinx ISE 6.2 to generate IP core such as fifo, ram in the process of fpga validation, synplify 7.0 pro to synthsis and optimize codes.This design is a part of video processing integrated circuit, this chip will be used in high quality LCD and CRT TV in the future.Finally several problems related to implemention are dicussed and summarized.
