| Since 2002, a unique television news program called citizen news has been very popular in China. It is rare to see such a scene in Chinese media. Citizen news broadcasted on many provincial level TV stations has created many viewing miracles. It is one of the most important events in Chinese media now.Citizen news first appeared on provincial level TV stations. The most important program varieties of TV stations are usually TV series, news and entertainment programs. Before citizen news appeared, other kinds of news on provincial level TV stations were not as popular as that of other TV stations. After citizen news cropped up, provincial level TV stations realized their news should be more localized.In the paper, the author talks about the following questions about citizen news: why does citizen news occur? How does it develop? What are its features? How to evaluate it? How to remedy its defects? In the meanwhile, the author studied the challenges and chances of provincial level TV stations.
