DVI, Digital Visual Interface, is gradually being applied to highresolution and high quality digital video signal transfer between displaycontroller such as a graphic card and digital monitor such as a LCD monitor.HDCP, High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, is introduced to protectthe signal from illegal copying or propagating specifically for DVI. ThereforeDVI chips integrated with HDCP will be the mainstream in future digitaldisplay interface. There are no such products available in china till now.The target of this article is to research into the technologies, design andrealize the HDCP part of DVI transmitter.DVI is important for realization of HDCP because it is the object forHDCP to protect. The article analyzes in detail the KEY technologies used inDVI protocol, especially the algorithm of T.M.D.S., Transition MinimizedDifferential Signaling.HDCP protocol is fundamental to the design of this article. The articleanalyzes three elements of HDCP, which are Authentication Protocol, Dataencryption and Renewability. From above the specification, we design systemlevel architecture of HDCP, split corresponding functional modules andinterfaces between them. Then we give detailed design of each module. Afterfinishing the design of all the modules, put them together to form anintegrated HDCP core. Based on the validity of functional and gate-levelsimulation, we embed it into DVI transmitter for physical design, post layoutsimulation and full-chip simulation.. Now the DVI transmitter has been successfully fabricated in SMIC using0.35μm technology, and the test results are accordant with expected. Theresults show that the design in this article is practical and accurate.
