As the development of the multimedia technology, the multimedia interface is also developing continuously. In order to satisfy the people's requirement for high definition video and high fidelity audio, the audivisual interface change from analog RCA, S-Video, to VGA interface ,as well as the Digital Visual Interface(DVI). During this process, the interface changes from analog to digital.It is very important that the electronic technology changes from analog to digital, meanwhile, it is also a milestone that the multimedia techniques change from analog to digital. Because of the development of the digital multimedia techniques, the audiovisual data transmission also meets the new challenges, such as high bandwidth, high reliability, easy to use etc..., which are also the bottleneck of the conventional audiovisual interface. So a new type of digital audiovisual interface is required consumingly.In order to define he next-generation digital interface specification for consumer electronics products, the HDMI Working Group was announced in April of 2002 and included Hitachi, Panasonic, Silicon Image, Philips, Sony, Thomson, and Toshiba. Since 2003, digital multimedia products with HDMI interface emerged in the market in succession.Because of the advantages of the HDMI interface, such as small bulk, high bandwidth, audio and video carried in one interface, link intelligence, and consumer-friendly connection, the HDMI interface is applied and popularized in consumer electronics. In addition, HDCP content transmission protection mechanism are applied in HDMI. As we know, DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA) and 4C Entity have also approved HDMI-HDCP for Content Scramble System (CSS) and Content Protection for Pre-recorded Media (CPPM) content playback on DVD players. This HDCP secure transfer mechanism has been endorsed by the majority of major motion picture providers and the FCC has, barring any flips and flops, mandated DVI-HDCP or HDMI-HDCP for all DTV receivers sold as "Digital Cable Ready". In Europe, the EICTA announced in 2005 Jan.19 that any display device tagged with "HD Ready" must support high definition content transmission via DVI or HDMI, meanwhile it must have HDCP capability. All these things indicate that HDMI interface plays a important role in theconsumer electronics and it has a splendent future.In my thesis, HDMI technology will be analysed, as well as a HDMI source will be implemented, which could be used in digital camera and playback etc...
