Researchers, libraries, institutions and publishers are seeking new ways to access the content of journals. Open access publishing is a new STM publishing model. The thesis is composed of five Parts:Firstly this article introduces the meaning of open access, including the definition made by BOAI(the Budapest Open Access Initiative) and the two conditions which 《Bethesda State on Open Access Publishing》 determines that open access must fully meet, then it analyzes the background of the emergence of the overseas open access, mainly from its culture background and practical reasons.Secondly it analyzes the profit dispute surrounding the open access from the background of open access development, which includes nowadays features of STM publishing and the market condition, the conflict between publishers and libraries, the attitudes of scientific researchers and institutions to the open access.Thirdly it analyzes the four forms of open access: it focuses on the open-access journals, self-saving subject-specific repositories and institutional repositories.Fourthly it analyzes the business model of open access. It analyses the cost of the publication by studying open-access journals publishing process, and generalizes cost recovery models. It also analyzes the author-pays model by studying the Springer Open Choice from theSpringer company and the typical example of BioMed Central from the open-access publishing.Fifthly by investigating how the university libraries use open-access source in China ,this paper analyzes the impact open access have on the libraries, including the adverse effect on the traditional libraries, the ways which can boost the function change of traditional libraries and how the libraries develop on the network. |
