In this paper, it mainly introduces the application specific integrated circuit top-down design flow and the design of a specific controlling chip, which is HGD05A and used in people's daily life.First, in this paper, it looks back the history of the development of Integrated Circuits and introduces some basic concepts of the Application Specific Integrated Circuits. Then, it mainly discusses the process of translation, optimization and technology mapping that translates the RTL hard language description to gate level netlist, It also discusses how to set constraint scripts on HGD05A in the synthesis flow by using the Design Compiler tool. And then, it discusses the whole process of translating netlist to layout by using the Auto Placement and Routing tool, including floorplan, placement, clock tree synthesis and routing.In the last part of this paper, it introduces the methodologies of static timing analysis and formal verification in order to reduce the cycle of chip design. It also introduces the methodologies of physical verification, such as DRC, ERC and LVS in order to improve the ratio of successful taping out.Now, the controlling chip of HGD05A has been made in Wuxi Shanghua CO., Ltd, whose character size is 0.5um and which uses two metal routing layers. Through testing, we know the work property of HGD05A meets the requirements of spec.
