Research On The Development Of Academic Library In OA Environment

The development of academic library has been impacting with the two factors: "Serialspricing crisis" and "License crisis". As public information service, libraries have been strivingto mitigate the crisis with several measures, such as Interlibrary loan, coordinated acquisition,and so on. But these measures can't remove the crisis completely. Recently, built on theinternet popularization, Open Access is increasingly considered the most logical and hopefulsolution to ease the obstacle of economy, technique and law in the process of scholarcommunication. The academic communities, publishing and library regard OA is thesuccessful model to realize the sharing of scholarly information resources.The conception of OA aims for the efficient information communication. Academiclibraries' main task is to provide the accurate and promptly science information. So this paperorientates to the development of academic library in the OA environment. The paper willdiscuss the current research state of OA, the definition of OA, the major ways of deliveringopen access, analysis the model of OA and its issues especially. The development of OA hasbrought a free communication environment of scholar information, changed the model oftraditional scholar communication, impacted on the academic library's funds, informationresources organization, institutional function, and development tactics. So the new role for thelibrary must be discussed. The conditions of academic library decide its manners of OA areintroduction of OA, launching Institutional Repository, making use of diverse OA resources,and having the primary responsibility to the preservation of OA resources.
