According to pratical development requirements of the remote monitor and control system in Jiangsu Province Public Security Network, this paper has made thorough research to the remote monitor and control system, and has discussed design and development of a three-tier C/S mode system architecture on the basis of DCOM distributed application programming technique. The designed remote monitor and control system has accomplished information collecting of various devices in LANs distributed among different areas and different departments, and it has also accomplished alarming via IP phone, monitoring various network devices, as well as managing the personnel and departments information. It has resolved some problems existing in network management and employment, and has realized managing information of different departments in classification, resource sharing and real-time monitoring and controlling. The remote monitor and control system has been designed based on the distributed object technique. The development tool is Borland C++ Builder 6.0, and Oracle 8i is selected as its database system. The system adopts three-tier client/server programming mode. Software is composed of the server-side one and the client-side one, that work together well to fulfil various tasks of the remote monitor and control system. This paper has illustrated planning, analyzing, designing and realizing the remote monitor and control system in detail. Meanwhile, it has also discussed the key techniques, DCOM and MIDAS, the system involved. The system has employed DCOM application standard for defining, establishing, utilizing and expanding component-based model, and uses MIDAS middle-ware from Borland Corporation to realize distributed multi-tier database application, which lays a solid foundation for database information exchange between client and application server, and for the remote monitor and control system.
