Research And Application Of Component Technology Based On COM/DCOM

The appearance of component technology brings a new way for software development, and become more and more popular among software developers. The target of Component-based software development is to build a reusable component database. Application development become as easy as choosing, modifying and combining components, instead of completely redeveloping them.This paper introduces the appearance and development of component technology, the three popular distributed object technology: COM/DCOM, CORBA and Java/RMI, which are researched and compared. In this way, the advantage and disadvantage of COM is concluded. Then the paper explains some ideas and key technology of COM, including interface, type library, automation, developing and using COM component method, and so on. Next the DCOM and COM+ are researched. Microsoft's .NET technology will become the mainstream in future. But COM will coexist with it in a fairly long time. Multi-tied application basing on COM+ will still be a good choice on windows platform. So this paper emphasizes on COM interoperability, such as the principle and realization of COM interoperability with .NET, Java and CORBA;We can also exploit new application model of COM in this way.In the finality, a three tied application based on COMh+——Online Meal-OrderSystem is present, which has great flexibility. Calling COM+ components through ASP.NET and JSP indicates that using COM interoperability is feasible.
