With the rapid development of computer technology and the rapid application ofmechanical and electrical integration of the textile industry, monitoring system has becomean indispensible part of textiles industry equipment and gradually been used in large-scalemanufacture. The traditional monitoring system for circular knitting machines in general isselecting appropriate sensors according to measuring requirements to acquire information andsaving the data in the device controller or transmitting it to the data acquisitors through thecable, then processing and analysing data by the special equipment or computer. If theknitting machines be measured are of a small amount, this kind of monitoring system maymeet the needs, but as to large-scale manufacture environment, its application will be greatlyrestricted for the complexity of cabling, the increasing difficulty of condition informationacquisition and processing and the great demand for labor.This paper has put forward a program of real-time working state monitoring systemcombined with wireless sensor network technology based on ZigBee Protocol for multiplecircular knitting machines(more than 100 sets). Compared with current wired transmissionmode, this wireless monitoring system is easy to construct, low in cost and high in reliability.This system realizes the realtime monitoring of the working status of circular knittingmachines through RS-232 interface, including the rotation speed, accumulation times of startand halt, malfunction information, calculating the volume of production, materialconsumption, and production efficiency.The main contents of this paper are: Introduction of IEEE 802.15.4 Standard and ZigBeeTechnology, project design based on ZigBee Technology, system hardware design , softwaredesign and programming. The paper has detailedly discussed the method and procedure ofdesigning the wireless network with monitoring ends, network coordinators and monitoringhost, and analysed the key issues of communication between monitoring nodes and centernode and the reliable data transmission through RS-232 serial port.The use of wireless sensor network instead of the wired network breaks through thetechnical limitation of cabling in traditional field monitoring system, ensures the real-timeand meets the requirements of real-time monitoring system of circular knitting machines.We have realized the hardware design, device selection of sensors, networking, programcoding, system assembling and debugging according to practical monitoring requirementsusing CC2430 RF integrated microcontroller of TI company.
