With the requirement of certain national defence project, it is needed that transmitting the monitoring data which is generated by monitoring terminal in wireless transmission mode. In recent years, with the development of the mobile communication and wireless networks the environment of network becomes more and more diversified. The diversified network environment provides different data transmission channels between the embedded monitoring terminals and the remote monitoring centre of the monitoring system. The different data transmission channels can enhance the monitoring system's stability via change data transmission channel into another when one of the channels is unstability or uncovered, meanwhile it can decrease the cost of data transmission of the monitoring system. The main function of the monitoring system in this paper is transmitting posion/time/status.etc information of monitoring terminal to remote monitoring centre via wireless network in realtime in order to realize the purpose of tracking monitoring terminal.On the basis of depth studying and analyzing the characteristics and advantages of key technonogies such as GPS technology, GPRS wireless networking technology,WiFi wireless communication technology, the paper proposed system design ideas and specific design methods. Paper focuses on the principles and the implementation of monitoring terminal, present an implementation project of monitoring terminal which is based on an ARM-Linux embedded platform. The project relies on the platform of Red Hat Enterprise Linux4 operating system and RealARM6410 hardware which is developed by HuaTianZheng Technology Company. The paper presents the process of the GUI designing and developing of monitoring terminal, picking up and displaying GPS information, meanwhile adopt PPP dialing script and realize dialing function of GPRS module, ultimately realized position information transmission of monitoring terminal through GPRS module and WiFi module.
