| By the time of 2010, China News Award has experienced a course of 20 years since it was founded in 1991. This award also has gradually developed into a nationwide and comprehensive highest prize of annual excellent news works with constant reform and improvement in the twenty years. Meanwhile, as the typical epitome of the mainstream ideology and values of our social, discussion and selection works of this award have always been attracting much attention. How it determine the quality of a news work? What is the standard of the selection? In other words, which value orientation does the award choose as the standard to judge and measure news work? Has the value orientation of selection experienced great changes during the twenty years? What's the reason of the changes? The questions above are the ones to be discussed in this paper.The paper includes three chapters in all. The first chapter is the outline and summary of the value orientation for the selection of China News Award. Through the introduction of the selection standard and analysis of winning works'characteristics, the first chapter aims to providing evidences for the selection of the value orientation, as well to laying the foundation for the following relevant discussions.The second chapter makes brief analysis and summary to the evolution process of the selection value orientation of China News Award. First, through the quantitative research methods, this chapter analyses all the previous works which have won the special prize (prize of honor) or the first prize. Based on these, it divides the process of the selection works of China News Award by stages. In view of the historical context and text analysis methods, this chapter reorganizes and analyses the changing process of the value orientation of selection. Finally, considering the relativity between the reports of kind of supervision by public opinion, this chapter pays much attention to the discussing as to make this argument more perfect.The third chapter discusses the reasons and significance of the changes which based on the two decades'evolution process of the selection value orientation of China News Award. First, through the phenomenon of changes of the selection value orientation, this chapter makes a thorough inquiry to the reason and law behind the phenomenon. Then, based on the reasons this chapter further analyses the effects and meaning what are brought by the change to the news media theories, journalists and news practice.Obviously, in the news communication history of China, the establishment and endowing process of China News Award can be deemed as a stream of potential power. It can not only inspect and summarize the news work's achievements, investigate the developing situation of news practice every year, but also can probe into the process of news awards to acquire the regulating substances in order to guide the theory-building and practice development of our news media, then to better regulate and guide the selection contest of China News Award. Therefore, it is necessary and meaningful to do the research on China News Award. With first-hand materials, this paper stands on communication circumstance which was created by the moving trend and social development, to analyses and summarize the value-orientation of China News Award systematically.
