The lake-watershed data is the important resource on lake and watershed research for scientific workers. However, receiving the lake-watershed data is a foundational work needing much time and much labor, and the receiving data is scattered and mastered by some scientific teams and scientists. Its effect is not fully exploited. This is because lake-watershed data sharing standards and policies are not perfect, and the more important cause is that there is not a platform for lake-watershed data sharing.This research is supported by the basic work of the project "Lake-Watershed Data Sharing Platform" of CAS Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology. This paper analyzes the home and abroad status on lake-watershed data sharing; make a summary on the current research status at first. Then after analyzing the origin and type of the lake-watershed data, the metadata model of the lake-watershed is proposed; the architecture and functional model of the lake-watershed data sharing platform is pointed out based on the model. In the end, a prototype system on the lake-watershed data sharing platform is realized after clarifying the developing and running environment on the lake-watershed data sharing platform. The main research content of this paper includes:1. This paper makes a research on the lake-watershed metadata expression. First, the source and type of the lake-watershed data are analyzed, and the lake-watershed data is classified. Then the lake-watershed metadata model is point out.2. The lake-watershed data sharing platform architecture is studied. The lake-watershed data sharing platform architecture is pointed out after elaborating the principles of the database and the data sharing platform.3. Functional structure model on the lake-watershed data sharing platform is pointed out. This paper proposes that the data sharing platform has five foundational service functions:data management, directory service, data service, extension service and system management.4. The prototype system on the lake-watershed data sharing platform is realized. After clarifying the developing and running environment, the system is built based on the Visual Studio 2008 and SuperMap IS.NET. The system is still in beta stage now, but remarkable achievement has been made and improved the status on the lake-watershed data sharing.5. A further analysis on the lake-watershed research trends in data sharing platform is made. As the same time, the lack of data sharing platform and future research direction is proposed.
