Tribology is interdisciplinary study on the theory and application of friction, lubricant, and wear of the interacting surfaces with relative motion. About 1/3 to 1/2 ofglobal energy sources are consumed by all kinds of friction and wear. According tothe estimate of International Tribology Council, the efficient utilization of tribologyknowledge can improve 1 percent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) for nationaleconomy. Consequently, study in tribology was paid more and more attention andplayed a great role in the modern design.Quite a lot of tribology data resources have been produced and accumulatedduring the research of tribology. However, these resources were discrete, nonsystemic and inconvenient to use. They were distributed among many companies indifferent places. With the rapid development of industry and network technology, there is an urgent requirement to all kinds of tribology knowledge. Therefore, it iscrucial to study how to integrate tribology data resources and develop a practicaltribological data sharing platform. This paper aimed to study the key problems of tribology data resources sharingplatform based on the web technology, develop some application software systems, and realize the network sharing of tribology data resources via Internet, with thesupport of the project, the tribology data resources sharing network of the advancedmanufacture & automatization data sharing network platform (AMADSNP), funded byMinistry of Science and Technology of China.Main innovations and achievements in this study are in the following description.(Ⅰ) Data Quality Control Criterion and Metadata Collection Standard, wereestablished based on the AMADSNP metadata criterion. They guaranteed thecollection quality of metadata, which was the key point for the platform.(Ⅱ)Tribology data resources framework, which covered the resources abouttribology design & research, was designed through analyzing tribology system and tribology data.characteristics in detail.(Ⅲ) The analysis of the regulations on network administration and intellectualproperty rights has proved that the origin of tribology data resources is legal. Severalsolutions to prevent disputations of intellectual property have been conducted andpresented in the paper.(Ⅳ) To meet the practical requirement of the sharing network platform item andusers, the friction & wear & lubricant data resources sharing network system was builtin Wuhan, which was developed based on the AMADSNP template using theASP.NET development software and SQL Server2000 background database as wellas the popular B/S mode of web technology. The application function of the sharingnetwork was extended as a result of the supplement of several distinctive columns, such as the academician column, the expert system, the intercommunicationtribology data collection system.(Ⅴ) Considering the safety of important data and providing the better queryservice for VIP (very important person) or career people, a network edition of tribologymanagement information system was developed using the VFP developmentsoftware and SQL Server2000 background database based on the previoussingle-PC edition of tribology database, which can realize the remote access.(Ⅵ) To meet the enormous market requirement for the lubricant design, alubricant design expert system was added into the network edition of tribologymanagement information system, which is able to provide user expert consultingfunction as a tentative development.(Ⅶ) Some key issues, such as system security, system program test & release ofthe tribology management information system and the lubricant design expert system, were solved by the use of the Client/Server mode.
