The amount of information involved in port is large because of the important role in transportation, logistics, marine engineering, plant construction and many other aspects. It's important to collect wind speed, wave, equipment corrosion degree, cargo storage location information for the protection of the port working order, increasing port efficiency and ensuring safety of life and property. Currently, there are two methods for port data collection:cable and wireless transmission. This paper summarizes the advantages and disadvantages, design a data collecting and monitoring system which is based on GPRS in port, which used for a variety of data collection and transmission of information.The system works a three-band GSM/GPRS module SIM300C which is the product of SIMCOM and controlled by AT89S51 for the collection node. Monitoring software is developed with C# in Microsoft Visual Studio 8, and database established with Orcale 10g.The design of collecting and monitoring system which is based on GPRS in port will be the creative application of the public GPRS network for flexibility, real-time, accuracy, avoiding the drawbacks of cable transmission. This will be an effective solution for the data collecting and monitoring in port.
