With the development of science and technology, Information Technology (IT) becomes a necessity of our life. Computers, computer networks and information systems are all around us in nowadays. The Data Centre (IT Room), as the centre of information system for data exchange and storage, it must have a high stable condition for operation. In this subject, the writer introduces a kind of short-range wireless network communication technology—ZigBee wireless sensor network, to the Data Centre environment monitoring system so as to collect its environment parameters wirelessly. In addition, the subject designs and realizes the core part of the system-the Integrated Data Unit (IDU), which is an embedded system based on ARM, and brings the function of the environment data acquisition and management into effect via the internet remote control.The subject mainly includes two sub-subjects:the ZigBee wireless sensor network and the IDU system. The former one is responsible for collecting the environmental parameters including temperature, humidity, power supply system (current and voltage), and sending these parameters to the IDU wirelessly. It is a data collecting system. And then, the IDU processes these parameters and puts them in the Web server, so that the clients can access to it and do some online operations. The IDU is the control and monitoring centre of the monitoring system.The ZigBee wireless sensor network is built with modular devices and different sensors and transducer. In this application, the wireless sensor network takes over the traditional wire sensor network to solve existing problems such as complex wiring, poor adaptability etc. The testing result shows that under the cover of the ZigBee network, the tree topology wireless sensor network could be established in a short time, and the data could be acquired, transferred and transmitted more effectively.The IDU sets data acquisition, processing and remote Web controlling as a whole, and use a modular device, which is an industrial grade designed embedded control board based on ARM as its core module. When the requirements of the monitoring system are clearly listed, the control board's interfaces include USART, analog signal input channel, digital signal input & output channel are expanded. Then, in order to realize the remote control and management of the IDU, the writer programs the ASP (Active Server Page) and COM (Component Object Model), which running in the Web Server of the embedded control board pre-installed Windows CE5.0 operating system.As a study of the ZigBee technology application in the monitoring system, this subject could be considered as a useful reference for broadening the applied range of such technology. The IDU as an embedded system, the ASP+COM Web remote control principle could be a reference to the system as well. Driven by the double promotion of software and hardware, it is believed that the ZigBee wireless communication technology application field will be further expanded, and its research achivements could also be further developed in the application of the monitoring system.
