With the development of RFID technology and the scope of application continuous extending, this technology has attracted the library's attention where a vast amounts of books needed to be managed because it's non-contact, non-directional, high efficiency and other characteristics. More and more libraries try to introduce RFID technology to improve the efficiency of readers'borrowing and librarians' management, but most of them just use RFID instead of bar code and magnetic stripe, not maximizing its effectiveness. The smart library system integrates RFID and other key technology of Internet of Things and is very suitable for library operations. Readers can retrieve books, view maps, locate indoor and outdoor, and navigate only by a mobile terminal. This application can provide readers with the best user experience.Firstly, the thesis introduces and analyzes the current situation of RFID technology research in library community, and then the target and meaning of this thesis will be explained; Secondly, we introduce the main technologys which we will use during the research and implementation of the scheme, including RFID technology and the Internet of Things, Maemo platform and Qt programming technology, Google Maps and its application, indoor and outdoor locating technology and other content; Thirdly, system requirement analysis will be introduced from both user requirement and business requirement, and system-related data is described by using data flow figure, and then we introduce the system hardware and software environment. The thesis focuses on discussing the overall design of the smart library system and the implementation of client module. In the thesis we describe the overall structure of the system, the design of each subsystem module and system database. At the same time, the design and implementation methods of map viewing, books retrieving and navigation are described in detail. Depending on the functional description of client system, the thesis gives the test environment and the scene description of the smart libyrary system. Also, relevant screenshots are presented. Finally, through analyzing the result of the system test, the functions of the system is validated, and it is proven that the function and performance of the system meet the design requirements. In the end, we give a summary of the thesis, and describe the shortcomings of the system and further work. Also, the summary of my work and research progress during master-degree study are described.
