After the research to the current conditions of testing to plant growing speed and the sampling and remote transmission of the testing data, the author makes a automatic system which can accurately measure and timely monitor the plant growing speed. By adopting CCD sensor incorporated with précised mechanical transmission device testing technology and GPRS wireless network, then the growing status of plant can be monitored remotely and timely, so as to solve the problems occur during the testing to plant growing speed and the sampling and remote transmission of the testing data.The plant growing speed testing system takes AVR ATmega128 8 bit micro-controller with ultra-low power loss as the core processor to finish the automatic data collection of high growing speed, external growing environment of the plant and data remote transmission. Traditionally, non-contact testing to plant growing speed uses CCD sensor, because of the limitation of the visual field, different plants has different image-forming positions in the sensor, even exceed the visual field of CCD sensor, thus, incorrect testing occurs. This paper adopts CCD sensor incorporated with précised mechanical transmission device to make the CCD sensor change the testing position with the plant growing to dynamically collect the highest point information of the plant, so that, vision field limitation to CCD sensor is gotten rid of. Finally, plant growing speed data is obtained through the combination of step length of stepping motor in AVR ATmega128 precise mechanical transmission device and screw pitch of ball-screw.The data transmission method of plant growing speed and external growing environment adopts GPRS internet data transmission technology, and wireless data transmission between upper computer and site computer is carried out through TCP / IP agreement. The advantage of GPRS data transmission is realized, and the remote network cabling and high expense of maintenance is avoid, so it is advanced in advanced technology, easy realization , high reliability, low expension, easy prevailing, and limitations to system testing object and application space are dramatically avoided.The data reception procedure of serve adopts VC++6.0 development device, and the branch system of database adopts SQL Server 2000 database management system produced by Microsoft company. Upper computer remote monitor not only ensures non-personal disturbance but also is convenient for users to check and manage the plant growing speed and plant growing environment date through browser.The experimental results had indicated the feasibility and accuracy for the project and method of this auto-measuring system. And it had achieved the anticipated request. The system has benefit of low power consumption, low transmission error rate and high anti-interference performance. The detecting precision of this system can reach 3.12μm, so it has better deserve popularization.
