After the first initiation, the Fuel air explosive(FAE) cloud cluster forms through dispersing and it will generate tremendous destruction power when detonated the second time. This indicates that accurately measuring the FAE cloud growing principle and cloud density will provide crucial foundation for determining the second detonating time as well as further studying on FAE damage power. As a result, this article branched out research on testing method of FAE cloud growing law and cloud density.Having analyzed how FAE cloud forms and its typical characteristics, this article established a measuring system that consists of two orthogonal placed high-speed cameras, a synchronous trigger and an acquisition control terminal to collect fog scatters video. It analyzed geometry parameters through cloud images in video, coupled with the relationship between gray scale and the cloud density. We came up with an scheme to measure the cloud density by combination of image and laser testing.According to the characteristics of FAE cloud image, we performed the gray-scale transformation, smoothed the gray-scale image, mainly adopted two methods to make background segmentation of images:1, got roughly cloud by the background difference method, used small area elimination method to remove noise, recovered empty leakage of the image segmentation combined with morphology; 2, Achieved the seeds by the background difference method, improved the classic region growing method to get relatively complete cloud. Having made quantitative evaluation of two kinds of algorithms, it got that the second algorithm has high accuracy for cloud images of different time and different environment, and calculation of the algorithm is greatly simple in comparison to the classic region growing method. It calculated the height, the expansion diameter, area, volume and average gray level of the cloud target in every frame, analyzed the growth rate of cloud combined with the time information, qualitative analyzed concentration change rule based on relation between the gray and the concentration.
