The food supplies is the basis of the national economy, the security of food supplies is important to the development of national economy and stabilization of the society,in order to take a effective management on the grain stored in the granary, administrators of the granary have to detect the humidity and temperature inside the granary to prevent the grain from getting mildewed and insect pest.in the late of 1980s, with the development of electronics and computers, granary monitoring system appeared,modern granary monitoring system is able to acquire physical parameters inside the granary by placing sensors throughout the granary, the acquired data is kept in the PC, this system can effectively reduce the manual labor of the administrators of the granary and take management on the grain stored. Most present granary monitoring system uses wire as its power supply, it also uses wire to transmit data, however, granary monitoring system using wire has its inherent problems, for example, complexity of routing, easy to get lighting strike, difficulty to install, easy to be wrecked. In recent years, with the development of WSN (wireless sensor network), the technology of WSN has been used in every aspect of our life, one of the most important application of WSN is to apply WSN into the traditional data monitoring field. Granary monitoring system based on WSN is powered by battery, it uses electromagnetic wave to transmit data, these features of the WSN could greatly reduce the difficulty of construction of the system and improve the stability of the system.This paper firstly introduce the current development of the Granary monitoring system and the concept of WSN, then it introduced the hardware, software design and communication protocols of this system, finally, the paper introduced the test result of the system after being installed at granary. The purpose of this paper is to design and implement Granary monitoring system with low power consumption. In the process of hardware designing, the system choose C8051F920 as the MCU of the node of the WSN to meet the demand of low power consumption of the system.in order to simplify the design of the system,we choose SI4432 as RF chip,which has a long communication distance. To ensure communications between nodes of the WSN, this paper designed a simple communication protocol after referencing IEEE802.15.4 and other protocols specifically designed for WSN,the temperature and humidity data collected by sensors will be updated and kept in upper PC,and finally be kept in net server for query. ALL the nodes of WSN work in a low power consumption mode and powered by batteries, the node of the WSN can work for 3 to 5 years on 4 AA batteries.The design and implementation of wireless granary monitoring system based on WSN effectively solve a difficult problem in granary monitoring field, finally, the test for the system in granary shows that this system accord with the specification of national food supplies department and that of grain depot, the system has a good prospect for further applications.
