As technology developing, people are not satisfied with the visual effects of the traditional 2D images .So they have made efforts to obtain 3D images that can reflect the real sense of depth, realism of everything in the nature by technology. Since the inception of 3D holographic technology, many scholars have designed a variety of implementation for the 3D holographic display.Currently, the mainstream display technology of 3D holographic is computer generated hologram, which is a new type of holographic display methods.Image is produced and processed by computer.Compared with ASIC (application specific integrated circuit), there are two advantages as following on designing system with FPGA (field programmable gate array). First, reliable standard components not only accelerate exploitation , but also make more convenient and flexible when new features need to be added. Second, it could correct errors in designed system in order to ensure the stability performance during development or at any time in the whole life of the product .For a long life cycle applications and larger yield project , sometimes it is more suitable changing FPGA design into ASIC .Therefore, FPGA is more suitable than ASIC for applications in small projects that is requiring short time to market and supporting remote upgrade .Therefore,Altera's FPGA chip CycloneIII EP3C5T144C8 is adopted to process image and drive LCoS screen .And Himax's LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon reflective display) HX7308 screen is used as a monitor.The system provides a hardware platform for computer-generated hologram 3D image processing and display.This paper is divided into five chapters to illustrate the computer generated hologram image processing and display system.First, in chapter 1,I will introduce detailed analysis of CGH (computer generated hologram) technology features , the advantages and disadvantages of mainstream display technology , LCD and LCoS display, then , show the development and achievements of the CGH technology at home and abroad in recent years. The advantages of CGH 3D display based on FPGA and LCoS are elaborated .In chapter 2 ,background knowledge on project development is illustrated from the four parts, the work principle of FPGA, process of FPGA project development , Altera's FPGA / CPLD development platform QuartusIIV9.1SP2 and Verilog HDL .In chapter 3, you'll see the structure of hardware system and the design ideas of HDL (hardware description language) code.Hardware schematic section is composed of interface circuit between FPGA development board and LCoS , the power for LCoS.The following seven modules are developed in Verilog HDL and IP core produced by ALtera Corp,system top module , the single-port ROM modules storing image data , the PLL and the system reset module ,FFT module processing image, the asynchronous FIFO module acting as a data buffer, IIC bus module initializing LCoS and LCoS driver module.Timing constraints has been done in TimeQuest integrated in Quartus II .In chapter 4, logic functions of the system have been analysed in Signal TapII logic and oscilloscope RIGOL Inc.Chapter 5 recorded the key technology in developing.Finally in chapter 6, the inadequacies of the system and the improved methods are discussed.
