Vector buoy positioning system was used to track the underwater high-speed target which was mainly detected by three different signal forms, as transient signal, sailing noise and homing signal. Target simulator was designed for imitating the movement of underwater target and generating the signal required by the system in order to debug the system and take performance test in laboratory environment. It was focused on the chosen DSP + FPGA architecture and was expatiated on the aspect of hardware and software of the simulator in the dissertation. In this architecture, DSP which was mainly used to generate the signal received by four buoys acted as the signal processor and control node. The logical management and control of the bottom hardware interface was actualized by FPGA program which undertook a part of data calculation task at the same time. For the sake of increasing the controllability of the simulator, the interface control application was designed for providing a friendly interactive interface to set the relevant parameters. All software functional module of the target simulator were described in detail in this dissertation combined with system flow chart and timing simulation figure. Based on the test result of the vector buoy positioning system, it has been verified that the designed target simulator fit for the design specifications, and it could undertake the debugging and daily test task of the vector buoy positioning system.
