Acoustic positioning systems have been widely used in underwater research field. According to the positioning and tracking mode of underwater moving target, the systems can be divided into active and passive ones. Typically, a passive acoustic positioning system is mainly composed of the buoys and the base station. The buoys are responsible for the collection and processing of the acoustic data, reception and transmission of the command and data. The base station is not only responsible for solving and displaying locus, but also controlling of the buoys.Hardware design of the buoy's communication and signal processing platform is the main content of the dissertation. The platform is responsible for collecting and processing data from every platform and related equipment in the buoy. It communicates with the host computer, which is in the base station, by radio, sends back the results, receives and deals with instructions. According to the system requirements, the platform is divided into seven parts, the controlling unit, arithmetic and logical management unit, data storage, Ethernet control, positioning equipment, communication equipment, power supply and so on.This dissertation focuses on the design of the platform, the selection and interfaces design of the chips and equipments, and the embedded program of ARM, which is the main chip. In the practical work, hardware design and debugging of the platform arc completed, and the designed functions are achieved and verified.
