In order to develop radar reconnaissance equipments, the radar’s work environment which is continuously updated should be reconstructed precisely, so that the radar’s performance in the ECM can be evaluated roundly. In view of this, this paper conducts an investigation on the development status and the implementation method of the electromagnetic environment simulation technology at home and abroad, and researchs on the design and implementation of the electromagnetic environment simulator which is flexible, programmable and upgradable.First of all, a mathematical model of the multi radiation radar for the radar reconnaissance equipment should be made, based on the theory of radar reconnaissance equipment and the characteristic of the complex electromagnetic environment in modern ECM.Secondly, it’s sopposed to make the system architecture and design implementation of the electromagnetic environment singnal simulator on the existing hardware. The mathematical model of the radar pulse signal is built through the pulse description words. Then we use System Generator software to map the design to FPGA. It’s concluded that using System Generator software to develop simulation programs can reduce the complexity and shorten the development cycle.And then, this paper discusses the key technologies of the simulator, including multiple parallel DDS, the generation method of pulse description words for multi radar signal, the implementation method of simulation of multiple antenna scanning style, the design of digital IF GWN and the method of fast switching frequency by the baseband. All the modules above have been designed and simulated by System Generator software.Finally, the baseband signal generator of the simulator is debugged with the microwave subsystem and the master software together, thus a multi-purpose, programmable and electromagnetic signal simulation system is implemented. The functions and parameters of the system were tested. According to test results, the simulator can generate a variety of radar signals and interference signals which conform to the technical indicators. In addition, the simulator has a good extensibility, its parameters can be set in the master software. The simulator can generate complex radar signals out of the radar system limitations and it’s adapted to meet the needs of continuously updated and more complex radar environment.
