Meteor Burst Communication(MBC) is a kind of burst communication,and the duration of every meteor communication is very short. Therefore, to improve the ability of real-time data processing is an important issue to be resolved. Reed-Solomon (RS) codes is a kind of nonbinary maximum distance separable codes. It can correct both random errors and burst errors well, which has been widely used in modern digital communication. The real-time soft-decision decoding algorithm for RS codes is studied in this thesis.In the first part, the development of Meteor Burst Communication (MBC) and the properties of the meteor burst channel are introduced. Then the related knowledge of finite fields and RS codes are presented in the second part, and Chase algorithm is used to realize such soft-decision decoding as RS(8,6) and RS(16,12). In the third part, every units of the decoding circuit are designed in VHDL language,including the module such as adder, multiplier, divider and Chien search.Finally, the serial structure decoder are adopted in the hardware circuit,which is compiled and simulated through ISE and Modelsim, and our design is implemented on the device of Xilinx Virtex-5 series successfully.
