The complicated and bad production environment underground coal mine, which lack of the reliable technology of personnel location, come into being hidden danger of the accident. Implementation of intellectualized monitoring and management during the process of production, can improve the production safety effectively. When accident occurs, the rescue can be taken timely and accurately on the basis of acquiring the orientation information of workers underground well. It guarantees the long-term, continuous and smooth development of coalmine production.On the basis of study on mobile object positioning technologies, the characteristics of wireless network and coalmine production, the paper designs the mobile object orientation system aiming to the environment of underground coalmine, discusses the overall framework and the function of the every layer of Zigbee protocol stack, puts forward to the scheme of mining personnel orientation system based on Zigbee network, Matlab software Simulation compared RSSI ranging method+maximum likelihood estimation location algorithm and RSSI ranging method-link quality indicator (LQI) estimation+maximum likelihood estimation location algorithm, resulting in that the later is better than the former with respect to the successful ratio and accuracy of localization. The later, therefore, is chosen for location algorithm. Hardware adopts high-quality and low energy-consuming CC2430 chipsets as the core of Zigbee series. The results obtained from actual tunneling range measurement indicated that the scheme basically satisfied the demand for mining personal location and environmental tests.The system can monitor the location and identify the status of the personnel with the wireless sensor in the coal mine, realize the management of check attendance, provide the rapid inquiring about the personnel distributed information, which providing the effective management for coal mine.
