Coal mine,as the focus of China's energy industry, its safety highly valued by the State. However, coal mine accidents still happen occasionally, but the existing monitoring system can not track the underground workers precisely by real-time,it is a huge security threat to rescue and ambulance personnel when an accident happens. In order to solve these problems,a tracking and locating system by ZigBee protocol for the underground personnels was researched in this paper. The system have tracked workers on the underground precisely for real-time by combining of wired and wireless. And the design of the system was divided into three parts: the coordinator node, the routing node and mobile node. Coordinator node and routing node used CC2430 chip, the coordinator was the control center of all nodes, and in charge of data transmission to the upper computer; while the routing node processed the mobile node's data and transmitted forward to the coordinator node, and also communicate with neighbors. The mobile node tracked itself position by CC2431 location engine, and this information is sent to the routing node.In addition, this paper studied ZigBee protocol and positioning algorithm in detail. It was shown that the ZigBee wireless technology was more suitable for underground location in this paper by compared with features of existing wireless technology and analysed ZigBee technology and topologys and so on.In order to improve the localization algorithm,a weighted centroid based on RSSI algorithm was proposed, the simulation and experimental results showed the positioning accuracy of the system had improved in this method than traditional centroid algorithm, and be able to meet location requirements by wireless the in mine.
