Design And Implementation Of Integrated Document And Workflow Platform For Banking

Now, documents imaging workflow technology is widely used in banking, all commercial banks take great efforts to establish the business systems based on documents imaging workflow technology. Using documents imaging technology, original paper can be scaned and converted to images. Images may be permanently stored and easily queried in business processing. To combine documents imaging technology and workflow technology, images are integrated to business processing so as to improve business processing efficiency and to reduce business risk. In 2005, Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission, Liu Mingkang first proposed the 'oriented-processing bank' concept. After that, under the promotion of financial supervision department,national commercial banks have began to reflect on the demerits of the traditional banks and to center on reframing organizations and business process ptimization. In order to pursue the outstanding customers service capability and to aim on differentiated competitive edge, national commercial banks have speeded up establishing the oriented-processing banks. From the traditional banks to the oriented-processing bank, business organizational structure and all kinds of resources will spread around the business processing and this need BPR(business process reengineering). BPR impels the banking systems integrated to an unified business platform. However, documents imaging workflow systems based on different business is hard to integrate.First, this paper carries on research on the paperless banking business. This paper reviews documents imaging development history in national banking and provides an intelligent documents solution about converting documents imaging to the PDF file and adding business logic to the PDF file. To resolve the problem about the scattered images in business processing and the network bandwidth occupied in images transmitting, related images are converted and merged to a PDF file. PDF file is well-suited for document transmitting and archiving purposes. Multi-pages of a PDF file can be splitted or merged according to actual need to interact. Contents from a image file are interpreted and captured with OCR or ICR and converted to a XML file. The Adobe Intelligent Documents combines the rich visual presentation capabilities of PDF with the advanced data transport and business logic capabilities of eXtensible Markup Language (XML). The Adobe Intelligent Documents can can provide the banks an ideal paperless solution.This paper describes the platform system infrostructure design based on typical J2EE 4-tier architecture. According to the banking business segregation principle of the front, middle and back office, the platform creates the front, middle and back functional modules. This paper expounds the functions and characters of every module and its submodule. Under the need of banking business process reengineering, this paper extracts the various banking business characters to design the business workflows. Flow charts are used to show the business processing workflows.This paper introduces the functions and serivices about Adobe Intelligent Documents. Adobe LiveCycle Designer designs the intelligent document templates. Adobe LiveCycle WorkBench designs the business processing workflows. To utilize Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite to establish the integrated intelligent document and workflow platform, the banking business process is integrated to a common platform and it is well-suited for demand on oriented-processing bank.
