Along with the great development of Electronic Science and Computer Science, Large Scacle Intergrated Circuits is applied more and more abroad in military affairs, economy and other areas of societal lives. Memory is an important part of Large Scacle Intergrated Circuits.There are different characteristics and control requests among different types of memory. Therefore, it is a valuable research to make a memory controller, which has broad foreground of application.The memory controller is requested to reliably control different types of memory so that it can be preferably fit for general-purpose application, and it should take full advantage of the write/read bandwidth of different types of memory to achieve preferable performance.This paper had a deep research of the relative technology of memory and memory controller.Firstly,the architecture, addressing, data storage and timing control of some types of memory were discussed,which are used abroad in high-performance embedded circuits and maily include Asynchronism SRAM, Asynchronism flash memory and some types of dynamic memory.Then the architecture and technology of some typical memory controller were disscussed .Based on this, a new architecture of general-purpose memory controller was presented. To enhance the using rate of memory bandwidth, architecture and performance optimization was done. Finally, the memory controller IP core was implemented with verilog hardware description language, the simulation and logical synthesis of which were done also.The memory controller IP has been integrated in a high-performance 32-bit SOC circuit and passed the function verification.
