Basing on newspaper market of Guangzhou and taking six quality daily newspapers as study samples, this thesis made exploration into the competition of thick-newspaper, and analyzed the competition ways and the laws of development. First of all, this thesis explored it from the respect of development laws of newspaper industry, and then developed the case study in details. By summerizing the methodology of extending pages, it is concluded that the methodology could be considered from two parts: the content and the form. First, serving for readers should be emphasized, for example, special issues are publised and more pages are added for more advertisements. Secondly, the soul of thick-newspaper should be the competition on news reporting and commentary. When we thought of thick-newspaper phenomenon, we, on the one hand, should not totally repudiate the competition of thick-newspaper and denied that it would have bad effect on building effective media; one the other hand, we should believe the existence of its inner development laws which should be taken rather than be avoided. For thick-newspaper, a healthy competition should be the way to evade the competitive risks. Last, this thesis pointed out some questions on how newspaper developed from page extending to thick-newspaper competition, which is a conclusion from practical operation to theory.
