The Design And Implementation Of China Meteorological Application Grid Portal

Grid Portal is a web based application that provides content aggregation from different grid resources and grid services. In this paper, we outline and implement a grid portal named CMAGPortal which aims to provide end-users with a gateway using CMAG (China Meteorological Application Grid) resources and services, an important project of 863(2002AA104210)—the shared studying environments of developing the technology of numeric forecasting by making use of the technology of Grid.At the beginning of the paper, we make a basic research about grid technology , especially about the grid architecture .Further, we also analyze the demand of building a grid portal. At the same time, we study the grid portal develop kit (GPDK). The CMAGPortal prototype based on GPDK which is designed to access grid resources and services for users based on web includes user management, job submission, information query and file management and this validate feasibility about our project using grid portal to develop.Based on portlet technology, firstly, we have studied deeply into the GridSphere portal architecture, and then we have redesigned and implemented the CMAGPortal which achieved the expected target. Finally, we have finished the integrated components of grid application portlets , certificate management portlets, CVSExporlor portlets and grid numeric forecasting portlets, and the grid application portlets implemented the function of credential retrieval, job submission, file management, resource browser, resource registry and grid trust user.The CMAGPortal designed by using the portlet technology accord with JSR168, so it has nicer expansibility and transplantable. Furthermore, with the help of other members of this project, we also implement other good functions, such as personalization, single sign on, user management based on roles and security certificate management. Now the CMAGPortal has been deployed in China Meteorological bureau and the Shanghai Supercomputer Center .At the same time, the CMAGPortal has been praised highly by users.
