With the expansion and continuously increasing complexity of modern networks, fault management of networks faces new challenge which requires advanced network to be used in research and in application area. Under the traditional manager/agent model of centralized network management, the manager is possible to face choke point in networks communication, what can result in degrading of network performance. What's more, the centralization framework is lacking in expandability and flexibility .To satisfy these new requirements, many distributed network management framework has been proposed. According to the network character of Southwest Jiaotong University, a network fault management system has been designed and implemented with a distributed network management model based on Web.In this thesis,it is proposed to do an improvement of the existing distributed management model to satisfy the actual requirement of the campus network management. In this thesis, is added a principal manager above all domain managers. A domain manager should be built in every campus of Southwest Jiaotong University, independent and integrating fault management system and managing only the local fault.A principal manager should be built in the main campus, which interact on domain managers with RMI interface and control its operation.Working system Domain managers is based on sending the fault records produced to the main manager and then, these records will be stored in the main database.Users of this system, will interact on the Web servers of the main manager with a browser.Users can operate domain manage and query specific fault records and performance data. This thesis also describe how to implement the system, including the SNMP manipulation in low layer as well...
