Grid monitoring is important to grid. It provides essential and source-related performance data for middlewares of grid, and it lays the base for grid system to regulate performance and find errors. As the research of grid develops from basic theory stage to application stage, many grid users put forward new requirements to grid monitoring, today, such as job states and resource utilization information which are required by users. So the thesis researches on grid job monitoring, puts forward the strategy, and designs the Monitoring and Service System (MSS),which offers the approach for users to get monitoring data by Web .The contents of job monitoring are defined in the thesis: the first is the job state monitoring; the second is the job running monitoring. The support of grid middlewares for job monitoring is very poor at present, so the thesis presents the main problems that should be solved to realize job monitoring and provides the methods to deal with them.In the thesis, the functions of grid monitoring in grid applications can be concluded into two points: the first is monitoring, i.e., to obtain information about resources, task states and abnormity; the second is information service, i.e., to provide many kinds of information services for users and other middlewares. The thesis puts forward the MSS, it's anatomy, and it's developing scheme.At last, to solve a specific grid application case-GMCD(Grid enabling Modern Collaborative Design), develops it's monitoring and information service system. It introduces the general architecture and discusses design scheme in details, some key modules have been realized.
