Nowadays a lot of universities have some high performance computingresources which generally are distributed and can not be utilized by theresearchers who need these resources to solve their scientific problems. This paper presents a solution to manage these resources by the gridcomputing technology. We have utilized this solution to deploy theZhejiang University Campus Grid. And based on this platform we haveimplemented the bioinformatics grid and computational fluid dynamicsgrid.Since the high performance computing resources in the campuses ofZhejiang University are distributed too much widely, which can not be usedconveniently, we propose to construct the campus grid. It is constructedby the hierarchical combination of the two middleware, Globus Toolkit andSun Grid Engine, to integrate the clusters, high performance computersand some public computing grids. The campus grid also provides the portalto the users.Besides the campus grid, which provides the common high performancecomputing cycles, we also implement the bioinformatics grid andcomputational fluid dynamics grid. These two kinds of grid arespecifically applied to the bioinformatics and computational fluiddynamics, to provide the corresponding services. The Bioinformatics Grid uses the campus grid to combine the highperformance computing resources with some specific bioinformaticsapplications, to provide environment for bioinformatics researchers.Similarly computational fluid dynamics grid also provides the service tosolve the corresponding problems. In addition, the campus grid provides the collaborative visualizationservice. The result data from the computation of campus grid and otherdiscipline grid are visualized, assisting users to understand the resultmuch more clearly. It is much helpful for researchers to analyze the datacollaboratively and efficiently.
