With the development of computer applications, the requirements of software projects become more complicated and change more frequently. At the same time, more semifinished products are produced and their relationships become more complex. So, it is necessary for software companies to adopt scientific SCM (Software Configuration Management) ideas and use advanced SCM tools. Based on the project "Research on Software Development Supporting Platform based on Object Component", supported by the Technology Foundation of Dalian City, we discuss some main aspects of SCM for medium and small scale software companies in this thesis. The flexibility of SCM systems are mainly discussed in this thesis. By analyzing these actual SCM systems, a new CM model based on process and collaboration is presented. This thesis also introduces the design and realization of FSCM, which is based on the model mentioned above. The design and realization of FSCM strives for integrating closely with reality and being succinct and practical. The main functions of FSCM are to manage the versions and changes of CMI, to support developing process and collaboration among developers. By using FSCM, users and teams can work efficiently. This thesis includes six chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of SCM research, related research work done in related research fields and our work. The basic concepts and standards of SCM are introduced in chapter 2. In chapter 3, problems of most of these actual SCM systems are described and some resolutions are discussed. A model based on process and collaboration is presented in chapter 4, and the basis principles and techniques of realization are also discussed in this chapter. Chapter 5 introduces the design and realization of FSCM. Some main problems related to realization is also discussed in this chapter. The last chapter summarizes our main work represented in this thesis and discusses our future work.
