With people's increasing demands for entertainment, Chinese TV entertainment programs have been undergoing great progress. However, these programs are still deficient in aspects of social influence, cultural taste and program format. This thesis focuses on TV quiz shows to reflect the existing problems of Chinese TV programs as well as their development. As early as 1950s, TV Quiz Show has revealed its extraordinary popularity among western people. Well into the 21st century, it came back to the screens. Through analysis of history and current situation of this kind of programs in this thesis, the author shows a positive attitude towards the program production by means of providing profound knowledge, stimulating interaction with audiences and applying new and high technologies while a critic attitude towards the negative effects resulted from increasing monetary awards and sole pursuance for watching rate. Based on this, the thesis discusses on the combination of knowledge and entertainment in TV Quiz Shows, emphasizes cultural taste and social function of TV Quiz Shows, and analyzes the so called "Clone" of TV entertainment programs which leads to their negligence of social influence and cultural taste. Clone of these programs is due to the producers' lack of innovation and sole pursuance for watching rate. Indeed, clone brings risks to both the original program producers and simulated program producers, and also functions as a barrier for the development of TV programs. Building up the program's brand image and avoiding clone appear to be the wise way to develop entertainment programs. Clone phenomenon and current status of Chinese TV Quiz Shows also reveal our lagging behind that of western countries. The thesis proposes the strategies for the development of Chinese TV programs against the backdrop of globalization which is to admit gap and strive to narrow it, and to develop TV entertainment programs in line with Chinese characteristics so as to build up our own entertainment programs' brands.
