The Intelligent Measurement and Control Unit (IMCU), which provides application development platform with intelligent and integrated functions for industrial measurement and control system, is a key component of the Substation Automation System (SAS) based on CAN fieldbus. IMCU is an 80C 196 microcontroller application system, the software development for which consists of such two stages as the Fundamental Functions Software Development (FFSD) and the Objectization Functions Software Development (OFSD), among which FFSD is initial and essential stage. The Component Oriented Analysis and Design Modeling Method (COADMM) is developed into a diagram solution tool in the course of the software development practice, which supports the component oriented software development process, and can be used as a general software development method. By using COADMM and related software engineering techniques, the software system analysis and design techniques for IMCU are researched and discussed. In the process of the FFSD for IMCU, component oriented program design can be initialized with ASM96 (MCS-96 Assembler) modular program development. Furthermore, the main applied programming techniques are discussed, as well as such algorithms as keyboard management, user interfaces display, data acquisition and processing, protection, and CAN communication. The various software anti-jamming techniques for IMCU are also discussed.
