It has been a hot point of study in the social literary circles recently that analysis on employment conditions of peasant workers through theories of social networks and theories of manners of selection. Many scholars both at home and abroad have been engaged in this study. However, it is rare for them to combine the two aspects of the problem. Depending on the investigation and analysis on the subtle changes in social relationships during the period of social transformation, the author intends to explore into the interaction between social networks, which are formed by the individuals during the period of social transformation, and the habitual manner of selection of those individuals. The paper is written with an aim of offering references to the social workers on the aspects of social service, social assurance, social control and social integration.Mr. Fei Xiaotong has once thought that the local society of China is a society of acquaintances and kinships. The network made up of all kind of kinships forms a generalized sequence of kinships and at the same time it plays a unique role in the integration of social order and the disposition of resources. The local society of China pays special attention on the kinships, which are bonded by the family, based on which, the process of the employment of peasant works is launched. Senior scholars of China mostly regard "family" as the basic unit in the social network of Chinese traditional society. The emphasis on the kinship affects people's manner of life and manner of social contacts. It has become a "habit" and has strong inertia. This kind of "habit" isn't changed although there has been an alteration of the living location from the countryside to the cities or an alteration of the social status from peasants to workers. Also, it isn't changed although the peasants have owned certain capitals of industry and commerce and have become employers themselves. For example, in the southern suburbs of Beijing, a "Zhejiang Village" has been formed, where self-employed households from Zhejiang Province inhabit. What's more, the "habit" isn't changed even though the peasants immigrate into the other foreign countries. In many international metropolitan cities like Paris, London and San Francisco, there are many particular "China towns", in which Chinese people inhabit. The present society of China is entering into a proceeding of all-sided market mechanism. Inevitably, during this process, every individual will consolidate his extant social network through certain manner of selection and then set up his new social network. At the same time, every individual will keep the existence and continuity of his extant social network and then continuously richen his social resources. In the process of fulfillment of market mechanism, interchanges among social individuals are frequent. Social individuals will make reservations and absorb new elements in their social networks, depending on certain manner of selection. As a consequence, the social network owned by every social individual will interact with its own manner of selection, which results in the changes in the sizes, structures and functions of social networks. Meanwhile, the extant social networks of social individuals will also influence the manner of selection of social networks, which can be obtained. By the means of methodology of interaction between social networks and their manners of selection, the present paper makes analysis on the employment conditions and processes of peasant workers and also makes investigation on the accommodation strategies of them. It makes new classifications for the types of social networks. According to the results of the interaction between social networks and their manners of selection, the types of social networks include: perceptual social networks and rational social networks. It has also pointed out that during the period of social transformation, the perceptual social networks set up by peasant workers play a dominant role in the...
