Objective To investigate the state and influencing factors of quality of life and occupational burnout for railway workers Based on this, some suggestions to alleviate or overcome railway workers' burnout and to improve their quality of life can be provided.Methods Six hundred railway workers were randomly selected from railway workers MBI-GS, SF-36, and SSRS were used to mesure occupational burnout, quality of life and social support. Socio-demographic, working, and health factors were also collected. Multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to identify significant factors related to the three dimension (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low achievement sense) scores of the occupation burnout and eight dimension (physical function, role-physical, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social function, role-emotional, mental health) scores of quality of life.Results Scores of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low sense of achievement for railway workers occupation burnout in the three dimensions and total were 15.03±9.150, 11.84±7.642,19.55±10.211, and 46.51±20.310, respectively. For emotional exhaustion scores of MBI, frequency of taking physical exercise, system of working hours, number of people with incomes in family, social objective support, degree of utilizing social support were the significant factors. In the depersonalization score, taking physical exercise, system of working hours, social objective support, and degree of utilizing social support were the predictive factors. The degree of utilizing social sustain was the predictive factors for the low sense of achievement scores of MBI.Scores in eight domains of QOL of railway workers in Taiyuan were 82.93±19.10 (PF), 66.27±41.52 (RP),74.85±20.60 (BP),60.31±21.40 (GH),53.26±18.81 (VT),78.43±19.33 (SF), 57.89±40.40(RE),55.63±16.21(MH), respectively. For PF and RP of QOL, monthly family income, system of working hours, frequency of leisure entertainment, social objective support were the significant factors. For BP of QOL, system of working hours, illness during previous two weeks, frequency of leisure entertainment, and number of people with incomes in family were the significant factors. For GH of QOL, system of working hours, illness during previous two weeks, frequency of leisure entertainment, frequency of taking physical exercise and number of people with incomes in family were significant factors. For VT of QOL, system of working hours, gastroenteritis, frequency of taking physical exercise, number of people with incomes in family, social objective support were significant factors. For SF of QOL, monthly family income, system of working hours, frequency of leisure entertainment, social objective support and illness during previous two weeks were the significant factors. For RE of QOL, system of working hours, frequency of leisure entertainment, social objective support and number of people with incomes in family were the significant factors. For MH of QOL, system of working hours, gastroenteritis, frequency of taking physical exercise, interest, social objective support, social subjective support and degree of utilizing social support were significant factors.Conclusion Occupational burnout for railway workers was related with frequency of taking physical exercise, system of working hours, number of people with incomes in family, social objective support, degree of utilizing social support. Quality of life was correlated with system of working hours, frequency of leisure entertainment, social subjective support,and monthly family income. Strategies to alleviate railway workers' burnout and to improve their QOL can be formulated based on this.
