Objectives: By revising the job burnout questionnaire used in the domestic, the purpose of this study is to develop an instrument rooted in chinese culture to measure the job burnout, as well as to study the status and influential factors of job burnout among mental workers. Use structural equation model to explore and confirm the relationship between occupational stress regarded as the results of job burnout, cognition factors and job burnout.These results can help confirm the applicability and individual difference in the development of occupational stress. With the aid of study of cognition factors effect on the occupational stress and job burnout, we are eager to offer a new solution for intervention with occupational stress: rational utilization of the mediating factors to relieve and reduce the job burnout. Methods: 1100 participants were sampled with stratified cluster randomly methods from various kinds of occupations, including administrators,teachers in high schools, policemen, doctors and so on. Participants were asked to fill out a series of questionnaires assessing occupational stress, social support, demographic characteristic, coping style, health locus of control, and job burnout.Statistic description, t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlations, factor analysis,reliability analysis,confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation model (SEM) analysis used to discover the relationship between the demographic characteristic, mediating factors, occupational stress and job burnout were conducted using SPSS 16.0 and Amos7.0. Results: 1)Findings indicated that Cronbachαcoefficient of CMBI was greater than original research except Split-half coefficients of DP and test-retest reliability of EE, indicating revised CMBI had a better homogeneous. The effect of model fitting were better by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of SEM, and all sub items'factor loading were higher than 0.4(P<0.01), indicating that every one item of latent variable had a fine validity.Meanwhile the scale had fine content validity,convergent validity and discriminate validity.2.Male workers showed significantly more depersonalization and burnout than female workers. And there were no significant differences on the dimensions of job burnout.Youngers, earlier job, financially strained, low academic career and single marital status were liable to suffer from job burnout. The score of burnout among policemen was higher than that of administrators or professional and technical personnel.The screening rates of single dimension of burnout were 17.27%, 45.36% and 60.64%. The screening rates of low-grade, moderate and high- grade burnout were 37.55%, 37.82% and 8.09%. The screening rates of single dimension of burnout, moderate and high-grade burnout of police were above the rates of administrators, professional and technical personnel.3.Not only could occupational stress have a direct effect on burnout, but also indirectly affected it by moderators such as health locus of control.4.There was a significantly negative correlative relation(P<0.01)between social support, internal health locus of control, active coping style and burnout;there was a significantly positive relation(P<0.01)between external health locus of control, health locus of control, passive coping style and burnout.Demographic characteristic (younger, earlier job, financially strained, low academic career and single marital status), occupational stress, social support, health locus of control and coping style were predictive of burnout. Conclusions: 1)The revised CMBI has fine reliability and validity. Confirmatory factor analysis shows good fit between the data and the construction of scale. It can really and steadily survey burnout. 2)Classic cronbachαcoefficient may decrease the internal consistency scale. 3)There are differences on the dimensions of burnout varied with demographic characteristic, and policemen is the most serious among respondents. 4)Burnout was the mental health effect of occupational stress.Occupational stress are significant predictor for burnout regarded as the psychology health effect of occupational stress; moderators such as health locus of control may in part mediate the association between job burnout and occupational stress.
