Objective: Investigation on the job burnout situations of the nurses in operating room of three affiliated hospitals of Central South University and on the relation of occupational stress, social support and job satisfaction with their job burnout.Method: 163 nurses in operating room of three affiliated hospitals of Central South University in Chang sha City has been sampled and surveyed through questionnaire on the middle ten days of July, 2006. The questionnaire contents include: individual basic status; the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Service Survey (MBI—HSS) used widely in the home country; Life Event Scale (LES); social support rating scale (SSRS).Results: 1,There exists some job burnout in the nurses in operating room of the affiliated hospitals of Central South University. The 74.2% of nurses' present middle and high job burnout, 52.8% present middle and high emotion exhaustion, and 21.2% present middle and high depersonalization tendency. Compared with nurses in ordinary room, the depersonalization degree and self-effectiveness of nurses in operating room have been felt on a low side distinctly. 2,The factor of social population has some effect on job burnout. Age has some relations with job burnout of the nurses in operating room, but the labor status, educational level, the title of a technical post, marriage and bearing status, family connection status, the occupation of spouse, the age of children, the number of family population have no relation with job burnout. 3,The correlation factor of nurse work in operating room has also some effect on job burnout. The work years and work satisfaction have relations with job burnout: the nurses having six to ten work years have the most serious emotion exhaustion, next the nurses having eleven to twenty working years. The nurses who have more work satisfaction have less job burnout. The different labor posts in the operating room have no distinct relation with job burnout. 4,Social support has evident effect on job burnout. The values of emotion exhaustion, depersonalization and the social support have negative correlation between each other, but the value of self-effectiveness has positive with them. The correlation between emotion exhaustion and subjective support or the use extent Of support or the sum of social support has the statistics meaning; the correlation between depersonalization and subjective support or the sum of social support has the statistics meaning; the correlation between self-effectiveness and the sum of social support has the statistics meaning. 5,The life affairs have more obvious effect on job burnout. The life affairs that have relations with emotion exhaustion and depersonalization are mainly events about family, work and study, not events about social intercourse or other life affairs. Three life affairs have no obvious effect on depersonalization. The top 10 life affairs are all events about job/study thing according to frequency and value. The life affairs that have relation with job burnout are mainly such things: the inspection and examination of sanitation sector, the big exhaustion of body energy, the burden of work and study, the irregular work time, no leisure time to look after family, the conflict of work and study The factor of irregular work time has prominent correlation with job burnout. 6,The result of Multiple Stepwise Regression Analysis: The factors working on emotion exhaustion of the nurses in operating room are job/syudy life affairs, age, objective social support, subjective social supports and the use extent of social suports in sequences; the factors working on their depersonalization are job safisfactio, subjective social supports and job/study life affairs in sequences; the factors working on their self-effectiveness are job satisfactio and subjective social supports.Conclusions: There exists of job burnout in the colonies of nurses in operating room, and this situation becomes serious especially when they are in the age scope between twenty-five and forty-four. The main factors that work on job burnout are job/study life affairs, job satisfaction and social support Therefore, the supervisors should maneuver human resources in reason, regulate the working hours of the nurses in operating room and reduce their labor intension; society, hospital and family should give nurses more appreciation, especially subjective support. These measures can lower occupational stress and enhance job satisfaction. By utilizing the above strategies, preventing or relaxing job burnout of the nurses in operating room, promoting their health of body and mind and increasing work efficiency can be expected.
