Objective:To investigate the curative effect and mechanism of electro-acupunture on jiaji-points in treating the intractable hiccups in post-stroke patients. Methods : In this research, 60 patients with intractable hiccups caused by cerebrovascular diseases were employed, and divided into treatment group and control group randomly. The patients in both groups were under conventional therapy. At the meantime, the treatment group took jiaji electro-acupunture therapy: after acupuncted on 3rd–5 th jiaji points, the impulse electronic therapeutic meter was connected on the needle handle, with a left-right crossover of positive and negative poles. The patients were treated once a day, 30min per time and 6 days made a course of treatment. While the control group took baclofen 5mg orally, 2 times each day, and the dose was suggested increased gradually. Meanwhile, gradually reduction of dose was recommended after the cease of hiccups to inhance the effects. The treatment periods of two groups were within 15 days. Take the total clinical curative effectiveness, time to onset, one day onset number, total treatment course and side-effects into consideration, and analyze them by statistics to compare the effects of two groups, in order to investigate the possible mechanism and clinical effects of jiaji electro-acupuncture on intractable hiccups after stoke. Results:The results showed that: the total effectiveness of both groups had no significant differences (P>0.05), but the three other index of the treatment group were superior to those of the control group, and the two groups showed distinct differences (P>0.05). Patients in treatment group had no complains of any intolerance, while some of whom in control groups had somnolence, fatigue, dizziness and headache. Conclusions:The jiaji electro-acupuncture therapy has the advantages of curative effectiveness, quickly onsets, short course, highly safty and convinent operation. And it can largely ease the psychological burden of stroke patients and benefit the rehabilitation effecay. Meanwhile, it is an extending and application of its treating scope, thus worthy of promotion and further investigation.
