Objective: To assess therapeutic effect on electro-acupuncture at Jiaji (EX-B) for the Treatment of Spasticity for Post-stroke Patients.Methods: Before the treatment, according to the evaluation of Ashworth Spasticity Scale ,we divided the 60 cases into 3 grades: mild , moderate and severeo Than the patients in the same grade was randomly divided into the electro-acupuncture at Jiaji treatment group and the traditional- acupuncture group. All the patients were treated one time a day, five days a week. A period of treatment was 4 weeks and both treated two periods. We evaluated every case according to the following items before the treatment and after the period of treatment: (1) Ashworth Spasticity Scale and Clinical Spasticity Index for assess spasticity. (2) Brunstrom degree for motor performance. (3) Barthel Index for assess the ability of daily life. (4) Neuronal damage assess for neuronal function.Result: After two courses of treatment, (1) The Spasticity of two groups both decreased. The electro-acupuncture at Jiaji treatment group had a total effective rate of 86. 7%.and 3 cases were cured, 14 cases were significant improved, 9 cases were improved, 4 cases had no effect. The other group had a total effective rate of 76. 0%. and 10 cases were significant improved, 13 cases were improved, 7 cases had no effect, no cases were cured. The difference between two groups was significant. (2)The scores of Brunstrom degree were very significant between two groups. (3) Barthel Index and Neuronal Damage Assess were not significant between two groups.Conclusion: Electro-acupuncture at Jiaji can alleviate spasticity, accelerate the recovery of motor performance, improve the ability of daily life, and promote the recovery of neuronal function.
