Study On Theme Landscaping With Plants And Its Application In Garden In Jiangnan Region

The Chinese classical gardens have a long history and deep cultural connotation. The plant is an essential element of garden with particular culture contents and theme symbols. Therefore, plant is an important carrier of expressing the garden culture and creating theme landscape.The classical garden in Jiangnan region is an important part and outstanding representative of the Chinese classical gardens. They have plenty of characters of plant scenes, various landscaping forms, abundant humanistic contents and ample theme symbols. So they're worth being studied and learned from.Firstly, this paper researched plant species, landscape features and topic characteristics in the periods of different histories by tidying up and analyzing references. Basic status and culture features' evolvement of plant in different period of gardens' history were ascertained. Secondly, the paper analyzed plant landscaping forms, applied species and important roles in Jiangnan classical gardens with references and instances of plant landscaping in some gardens in Suzhou, Wuxi, Yangzhou and Hangzhou. It revealed that plant theme landscaping had been the main carrier of the garden culture. Thirdly, the theme cultural connotation of familiar plants, theme landscaping forms and modes in Jiangnan gardens were concluded and expatiated in the paper. Finally, applicative ideas, designing skills and noticed proceedings in modern landscape architecture were put forward.
