The Study On Sustainable Development Of Historic Districts

The conservation of traditional and historic districts is an old theme with some new questions . There are lots of historic and cultural cities in China. In the course of Chinese urbanization, it is very important to conserve historic districts, which is an important part of historic and cultural cities.First, in this thesis, the concept of historic districts is defined. The protective process and realization of historic districts are summarized. Furthermore, some questions lying in Chinese historic districts are mentioned. Section two of the thesis defines the concept and the meaning of sustainable development. According to the contemporary situation of historic districts in China, the author applies the theory of sustainable development to the preservation of historic districts, and for the first time, puts forward the theory of sustainable development of historic districts systematically. The core of the theory is the ideas of sustainable development of historic districts, which are sustainable development, dynamic ideas, monolithic preservation and long-range renovation. The background of studying and the practical significance are also described in this part. Section three of the thesis indicates the contents of the theory. Five principles observed in the preservation of historic districts are concluded, which are the sustainable utilization, the balance between conservation and development, organic renewal, cultural continuance and public participation. The contents and methods of conservation are also indicated in detail in this section. Finally, combining the planning of Xida District of Baoding, the author draws some conclusions on the sustainable development of historic districts.
